Energy and Emotions
As part of my continuing work with my Sabbatical Supervisor, even though the official "time away" piece of the Sabbatical has ended, I recently read a fascinating article on the power of positive emotions. In a study undertaken by Epidemiologist David Snowden, 678 aging nuns who had been asked to write a personal essay about why they came into the order, at their time of entry. An Executive Summary of Jesus' Teachings |

God's view is different. Aim really high. Don't be a show off. Trust God will provide. Don't judge or it will come back to haunt you. The kingdom of God is worth it. The good and the bad will be separated. The lost will be found. Forgive and be merciful. Persist. Don't be ungrateful. |

Where Is the Hope after Copenhagen? |
|
An open letter to all Canadians from the Moderator of The United Church of Canada
This letter was read by our Moderator, Mardi Tindal, at her home congregation here in Ontario this past Sunday. It was also read at more than 100 congregations, during their worship services, right across Canada. In it Tindal challenges us to find hope despite the failure of the Climate Talks in Copenhagen a month ago.
January 17, 2010
This letter was born in Copenhagen where, heartbroken, I watched the international climate talks fall apart.
Heartbroken because it was clear to me, as it was to many of you, that the talks in Copenhagen needed to succeed, that it is no longer safe for us to go on as we have before.
I believe this is a unique time in humanity’s fretful reign on Earth, a rare moment that will have historic significance.
And yet the Copenhagen talks failed. We have no plan to reduce deadly emissions of carbon dioxide. Emissions that are a symptom of our broken relationship with the web of life. Emissions that are rising faster than at any time in human history.

Chalmers West, our Outreach Ministry, here at Three Willows continues to be a very busy place. During the month of September we have experienced a considerable increase in the number of people coming to us for food and clothing. Although Economists and Politicians tell us that the recession is over, we certainly are not seeing any evidence of this. If you know of anyone who needs food or clothing we are open on Thursday morning between 10 and 12. Donations of food and clothing or financial assistance can also be dropped off then, or any morning at the Three Willows Church Office. Three Willows is located at 577 Willow Road, on Willow Road between the Hanlon Expressway and Imperial Road. For more information contact Chalmers Community Services Cente at 519 822-8778, www.chalmerscentre.ca.
